EMERGING MOTION PICTURE PROFESSIONAL SKILLS BOOTCAMP SUCCESSFUL

We've come to the end of the level one pilot project sponsored by the Cape Film Commission and what an overall success it was.

The Objective : Enhancing Workforce Development within the Creative Industries.

All too often people, especially people beginning their working life, seek instant results instead of building a solid base from which to grow and blossom. As technology is advancing at an ever increasing rate, the skills learn't today may be obsolete tomorrow, so, the important aspect of life at the start of this century is learning how to learn.

The Cape Film Workshops hosted a 10 week skills bootcamp at the Runway Resources Centre focusing on:

Building solid skills
Learning the basics of Film
Film Anatomy, learning how stories work,
Telling stories with moving pictures, Aesthetic and Technical
Cinematography: writing with light
Production Management, making the project work, controlling time, effort, money, machines and manpower for the project
Music and Foley Art: writing with sound.

AND - now for the next level where the class will be divided into four groups each specializing in one of the broad areas of motion picture work:

ART: everything that appears in front of the camera goes through the Art Department first,

BUSINESS: Film is big business and needs proper financial controls in every aspect of the production,

CRAFT: The story tellers and how the story is told. This includes film grammar, writing, directing and editing,

TECHNICAL: Here we deal with the technical support needed in production. This includes the camera, lighting and grips.

Each group will receive instruction in one of these areas for four weeks and then combine to form a large group to make another short film. A much higher standard is anticipated.

This is going to be an incredibly exciting workshop indeed.
